Meeting Special Needs Series

Meeting Special Needs is a series of six practical and concise handbooks designed to give help and guidance to teachers and professionals working with or caring for children with special educational needs and disorders.

The books include sections on:

  • understanding the condition and recognising symptoms
  • strategies for a supportive preschool or school environment
  • supporting the child and their carers
  • individual education plans
  • working with other professionals

All of which is designed to ensure children with special educational needs are fully supported and included. The books are written by renowned specialists in the fields, and have been carefully adapted for Australian and New Zealand conditions.

About the Authors

Selena Ledgerton

Selena Ledgerton is a childcare and education consultant who has worked in care, special provision, and mainstream schools. Selena specialises in working with children with special needs, violent tendencies and social and behavioural disorders and has previously written several books.

Collette Drifte

Collette Drifte is a freelance writer and educational consultant, with 22 years of teaching experience in mainstream and special education.

Mary Mountstephen

Mary Mountstephen has worked in education for many years. Her experience has been in mainstream, special and independent schools as a class teacher, special needs co-ordinator and primary Headteacher. She writes articles and books about barriers to learning and in working with schools and organizations internationally.

Anne Vize specialises in writing for children and young people who learn in different and unique ways. She is a special educator and writer from Melbourne and works to develop print and digital resources for children, their teachers and supporters. She works in the vocational sector developing learning resources for training providers and creates freelance content to support the new vocational major curriculum in Victoria. Anne is fortunate to be able to divide her time between writing and exploring the wonders of sailing and windsurfing on the stunning Port Phillip Bay.
