Learning Opportunities: Homes and Families

Planning to engage and interest children

Young children's knowledge of homes and families begins with their personal experiences. They are curious about something that has direct meaning to them. They build on this foundation and initially make sense of other homes and families in terms of similarities, or differences, from their familiar model. Children will be excited when exploring an area that makes sense to them, as they have first-hand knowledge of their own family and home to build on.

This book provides a store of practical ideas focusing on homes and families, enabling educators to plan ahead with confidence.
